About this trekking

This five day trekking lets us observe the two most spectacular faces of Aconcagua. We will first walk to Plaza Francia, South Wall base camp. There, after walking through glaciers surrounded by amazing mounts, we´ll enjoy its impressive 3000mts of altitude .After that we´ll walk a long way up to Plaza de Mulas Base camp, which after such an effort, will reward us with an incredible view of Aconcagua´s West Wall at sunset and it´ll give us the chance to spend some time with mountaineers from all over the world that get ready to reach the summit.The services include professional mountain guide, full- board lodging in base camp for four nights in mountain tents, and above all our experience in Aconcagua for over twenty years. After you have rested from your flight, we wait for you at INKA EXPEDICIONES office to finalize the arrangements and give you the needed paperwork to go to the permit office and purchase your permit to enter to Park Aconcagua and your bus ticket to Penitentes.Accommodation: Not included – Meals: Not included- Transportation: Not included
Departure from Penitentes. Transport to Horcones. Arrive to the Aconcagua Provincial Park, to the control post (Ranger Station) next to “Laguna de Horcones.” Start of the trekking tour through the stream of the Horcones river. During the trekking lunch break. Continuation to Confluencia campsite. Dinner and night rest. Accommodation in tents.Trekking duration: 4 hs. – Accommodation: Tents –Meals: Lunch and Dinner
We’ll trek for about 5 hours until we arrive to Plaza Francia, base camp of the impressive Aconcagua South Wall. From this place, Aconcagua, the Stone Sentinel, appears more magnificent and intimidating than ever. We can see the entire South Wall. This is one of the nicest points of the expedition with a breathtaking first view of Aconcagua that you will never forget.Trekking duration: 6 to 8 hours – Accommodation: Double tents / dome – Meals: Breakfast – Lunch Dinner.
We will begin our second approaching day, trekking to Plaza de Mulas, main base camp in Aconcagua. Early morning, after breakfast, we start our walk across “Playa Ancha” (meaning Wide Beach) it is a deserted and always windy valley. We slowly gain altitude up to the Horcones Superior Valley. After hiking across Playa Ancha and climbing up through a very steep path, “Cuesta Brava” (meaning Rugged Slope), we reach Plaza de Mulas, at 4.250 m.Trekking duration: 8 to 10 hours. – Accommodation: Double tents / dome – Meals: Breakfast Lunch – Dinner.
This day is a rest day and a good occasion to explore the local terrain. We will walk on Plaza de Mulas surroundings overcrossing the Horcones Superior Glacier, always with an incredible view of Aconcagua´s West Wall at sunset. Plaza de Mulas is where hundred of expedition begins the expedition to the summit, so you can talk and share experiences with people of all around the world.Accommodation: Double tents – Meals: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner.
After we have breakfast and finish the organization of our backpacks, we began the descent to Horcones. Once we arrive at the Rangers office, a private van will be waiting to transport us back to Penitentes. If we have time enough, we will descend to Puente de Inca and see the magnificent landscape. End of services.Trekking duration: 8 to 9 hours – Accommodation: Not included – Meals: Breakfast – Lunch. (Not included: Dinner). Transportation: Transfer Horcones / Penitentes – (Not included: Mendoza – Penitentes)

NOTE
The proposed itinerary can be changed due to weather conditions o other forced situations that put in risk the group security. The guides have the authority to change the program according to their criteria, to maximize the security based on his knowledge and experience.

We will get in touch with professional, experimented and highly qualified guides, with degrees and licenses from organisms that guarantee their special training, graduates from th Provincial School for Mountain and Trekking Guides (EPGAMT), the only school that specializes on the Aconcagua, accredited in the Argentine Association for Mountain Guides (AAGM) and members of the Professional Mountain and Trekking Guides (AGPMT). Some of the guides have licences from the UIGAM.
Transport in a private vehicle to and from Penitentes-Horcones in a private vehicle. We take you from our office in Penitentes to the entrance of Aconcagua Park, to start the trekking.
Confluencia and Plaza de Mulas: All nights of the trekking at double tents or dormitory domes (4 or 8 persons), , Full Board.
All meals are included during the trekking. Meals are prepared daily by the cooks. Our diet include, among other things, fresh fruit, meat, chicken, vegetables, fresh eggs, bread and argentine wine. Our meals are energy balanced with all your body requires for the ascent. We are also are prepared to elaborate special meals, like vegetarian, celiac and other kinds.
There is permanent communication, through VHF, UHF radios, Satellite Telephones, between Camps, groups, Penitentes and Mendoza. This guarantees safety and organization that will lead our trekking to be a successful one.
The dining domes are completely equiped with tables, chairs, dishes and electricity, to provide the highest comfort and quality services. You will be attended by our Camp Team, in charge of preparing meals and of offering an excepcional service, a friendly treatment.
We provide our clients with the best mountain tents available. Also we have exclusive dormitory tents for 4 or 8 persons, with bunk beds, electric light and carpet. We have private bathroom for our clients, toilettes at Confluencia Camp and letrines at Plaza de Mulas. We also offered hot water baths at convenient prices.
Assistance in the obtainment of Aconcagua Provincial Park entrance permits. The Aconcagua is a reserved area, managed by the Government of the Province of Mendoza. To be able to enter the park one must obtain a permit, for trekking or for ascending to the summit. You will be personally assisted in this procedure at our sales office. The permit cost is not included in our services.
Facility for the deposit and care of equipment. A person in charge of the camp supervises your equipment while you ascend. Personal equipment reviews and advice for rental, if necessary

  • Rescue costs or other costs due to the abandonment of the expedition. (Riding mule, pack mule, individual transfers, helicopter flight, extra nights, meals, extra costs for changes in your flight ticket, personal porter service, etc. – It is recommended to take out insurance to cover these expenses).

Light Weight Underwear.
Long Underwear, Tops and bottoms. (Polypropylene or Capilene) cotton blends are not acceptable.

2 pair of smooth wool, nylon or polypropylene to be worn next to the skin. This reduces the incidence of blisters and hot-spots.
Sandals (footwear to rest, to move confortably through the camp).
Ski poles. One pair of telescopic or collapsible, optional.
Backpack: 75 liters.
Daypack: Optional but recommended.
Sleeping bag: from -10 º C / -20 º C.
Water bottle: Two (2) one-liter water bottle.
Sun screen: SPF 30 minimum.
Lip screen: SPF 30.
