One of the best trekking in the World!

Crossing the Andes is a complete trekking trip, with a huge variety of landscapes, flora, and fauna, and also a great experience.

About the trekking

This 9 days trekking is an unforgettable adventure through the beautiful Lake District in the Northern Patagonia of Argentina and Chile. The Lake District is an awe inspiring region where post glacially created lakes are surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and beautifully shaped volcanoes. We will trek, travel by boat and by minibus while having in these wondrous views, passing through amazing Valdivian rainforests and relaxing in natural hot springs.

We meet you at the airport of Bariloche, an important town of the Argentinean south. Bariloche is an international tourist destination, known for its breathtaking landscapes, outdoor activities, ski slopes, lakes and famous for its chocolate. You might choose to shop for souvenirs on the well-known Mitre street and enjoy the local cuisine having a parrilla (grilled meat over wood fire). Night in hotel.
We drive from Bariloche to Pampa Linda, the base of Mt. Tronador which means “thunder mountain” as you will hear. This is a significant mountain in northern Patagonia, with an eternal glacier on top and a very distinct shape. From Pampa Linda we hike up to Paso Vuriloche. The Vuriloche Pass has an interesting history as it was the mountain pass originally used by the European missions coming into Bariloche from the Pacific Ocean. The hike is 10 km, gaining 600 meters and descending 150 meters. We camp at Mallin Chileno. Night in tent.
We leave our backpacks in camp and hike to Refugio Viejo. This mountain hut is on the front of glacier of Mt. Tronador and we can enjoy the views and touch the ice. Then we return to Mallin Chileno camp to get our backpacks and hike about 4 km to Huenchu Pam camp. Night in camp.
We continue hiking along the green valleys covered by pristine forests, crossing rivers and creeks. We pass by a family house in the middle of nowhere and continue hiking until we get to the hot springs, La Junta. This is a 14 km hike descending 700 meters.
It is such a natural paradise that we stay one day there to relax at hot springs and recover for the last section of the hike. There are a few houses that belong to the Velasquez family. Night in tent.
We will continue hiking west and then turn into a valley that takes us north up to a place called Rio Blanco. There, we will set camp to spend the night. Night in tent.
This day, a boat will pick us up and we will sail on Lago de Todos los Santos to arrive in Peulla Hotel. It is a beautiful hotel, where we can relax, enjoy the scenery and learn about the story behind this mythical path.
From the beautiful hotel in Peulla we continue driving through the Valdivian Rainforest to the border of Argentina. After crossing into Argentina, we take a short boat ride across Lake Frias to Puerto Alegre. Finally, a minibus takes us to Puerto Blest for our last cruise on Nahuel Huapi Lake. We arrive at Puerto Pañuelo, in Bariloche.
After breakfast we take a short drive to the airport and say farewell.
We will have followed the steps of the mythical route that goes through the Patagonian Andean lakes connecting Argentina and Chile. This path was used by the native peoples –Huilliches and Mapuches- more than four centuries ago.
